So I know that ideally side imaging needs a completely clear pathway 180 degrees. Has anybody mounted a side imagier in a ride 115x console? Would you get complete loss of side imaging ability or partial loss?

I had the same question as I am about to buy a WS ATAK and have a Garmin echomap 73sv that I plan on mounting on the pod.

I've been told that it should work fine, but try and get it as close to the bottom of the opening as possible.

Let me know if find out different and I will let you know what happens on my end in the next 7-10 days.

Good luck!

Doesn't look like anybody has the answer. Fishface looks like you will be the first person with actual knowledge. Keep us posted on what you find out.

I'll see what I can find out. I messaged one of the Prostaff. I imagine it will need to drop slightly below the hull. I use a swing arm mount on my Commander and Ride. I have it a couple inches below the hull and it works fine. I never pick up my yak but when I have somebody paddling next to me I can see hull and paddle strokes from their yak.

my Lowrance HDI transmitter is pretty large (barely fits in the designated scupper) and it does not drop below the hull.

I asked Chad Hoover this same question about side imaging on the ATAK. He said it would work so im assuming the 115X will work as well.

Regardless of make or model, a side imaging transducer has to have line of sight to anything it is to report.

If midship, it should be below the lowest point of the hull to work effectively both ways. It can be off the side, or below the centerline.

If it is in front of or back of the hull then it just needs to be submerged so that it does not catch air in the waves.

If it is partially obscured in a scupper type mount, it will not be functional as a side imager. Down imaging should work fine.

Good luck, Phill

Carver is correct. The side imaging will not work if signal is obstructed. The traditional and down vu works great but side vu is a no go on my garmin inside the ATAK pod. Now I just need to figure out a way to raise and lower the transducer while its in the pod area. May be a minute.

Well good to know. Disappointing to know the console / pod won't work with side imaging without some user modification. Somebody will diy engineer some kind of lever to raise and lower the transducer.
