Flash floods are no joke...I don't think there would be much hope if you got caught in that mess.

I don't think I would be standing there that calmly filming that, I'd be headed for higher ground!
I've seen what can happen to ancient cypress trees that you couldn't reach your arms around that were mowed down like bowling pins on the Medina river several years back during a flood.

Just one more cast!

Why would there be so many giant logs? Any backstory to video?

If you're going kayaking in flood conditions, remember to wear your life jacket! If it's a bright color, it might help them find your body.

I experienced this same scenario canoeing on the Buffalo River in Arkansas. We were camping on an island, listening to the radio and heard they had about 3 inches of rain upstream. Knowing it would take a few hours to make it down, we slept in. That is until we heard the water rushing by a little louder. By the time we woke, the water was within feet of our tent and the canoe was floating (luckily tied to a tree). What was once a lazy river with class 1-2 rapids became a rolling river of chocolate milk and big class 3 rapids. Without paddling, the GPS said we were moving 7-9 MPH. We ended up paddling/coasting about 20 river miles that day to our take out. Scariest day of paddling I have ever experienced. Yes, we were paddling among logs floating by us, water rising by the minute, etc. The scariest part was when the river flooded to a point where it split in areas. Each time, we went left, each time we were wrong and ended up in the trees. Somehow, by luck, we never flipped. I learned that day always choose river right!!

Further down river, a family thought it was a good idea to leave camp from high ground and enjoy the river. My buddy and I saved their 10 year old son and their dog. Heard the drunk uncle was found later downriver. The kid was wearing a life jacket so he was easy to save down the river, the uncle was not. I ended up cussing the parents out for allowing their young son on the water with someone drinking on a day nobody should have been on the water.

My buddy and I appreciated the power of the water, wore our like jackets even on the bank and never underestimated what mother nature could do at the drop of a hat. To this day, I get chills down my spine when I think of that 10 yo boy screaming in the water. That was just one experience. I could not imagine what our first responders see and hear.

That's a scary video. Holy cow.

JJ, a few weeks ago, my wife and I were going to try to float the Buffalo while we were in Arkansas for a wedding. They had 10 straight days of rain and I didn't want to drive two hours from Fayetteville to have my butt handed to me. That's not my idea of a relaxing day in a canoe. I'm glad we didn't go. Would have ruined my memory of my first overnight on the Buffalo with perfect conditions. Beautiful river.

Smart move duck hunter. Buffalo River is no joke. No dams on the river so you have to depend on the weather reports on the radio. Just a few inches upstream will rise the river 5+ feet. My experience was just from 3 inches of rain during a wet spring in May. 10 inches could be a search crew looking for you.
