Tawakoni has been brutal to me and my little one Luke. I have been fishing it hard since 3pm and only got one bite. I tried several spots of north of two mile bridge. There was one group on a pontoon...and they must have had 200 jugs out. At any rate...when I fished up north I kept on getting hung up on brush. I moved closer to the bridge and found a grassy shoreline.... Nothing.
I am now west of 751 and have got one bite.
I am sure they are somewhere.... I just don't know where.

Try south of 2 miles bridge, fish sand bars near windblown points. cut off the engine and enjoy the moon. Good luck and have fun.
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

spawn is taking place... fishing is tough when they're spawning. blues are migratory spawners and leave the lakes up here by the third week of may .. it's like a ghost town and if they've got enough running water they'll do it down there too. probably plenty of water for them to run up now but in years past they wouldn't have run up river due to now flow. This is the reason I take off this time of year because there are no fish in the lakes after may 21st. I start back on my night trips July 1st as that's when they start getting back into the lake real good up at Kaw

One thing I don't understand is how to fish newly flooded water. Normally with water coming in the lake I want to fish right up by the river or creek and fish shallow...but right now the shallowest I can get is 10'...less than that and you have acres of this brush like stalky plant.

The lake was so high...I had to take off my stern light to get under the 751 bridge.

what were you catching an eagle mountain? channels and blues aren't the same so if you were catching channels then that can't relate ..also conditions could be different at eagle mountain compared to tawakoni. It was this time of year when I fished those tournaments down there in 08 so it'll be the same now just different because of the flood water .. when they're spawning ... in the actual spawn they don't bite unless you're putting the baits right in their face. They won't be out actively looking for food when they're engaged in the spawn ... the only reason for them to bite is if you put their bait near enough to their nests that they feel the bait is a threat. That's how we caught all of those fish and with the flood water it'd be near impossible to figure them out until the females dump; their eggs and that's likely to be a little while but when the females and males are doing their thing you can chalk up your lack of success to that as there's no figuring it out... just gotta give them time to get done and then the females will be catchable ... after the males get off the nest then the spawn is over and everything goes back to normal. With one exception ... those males are going to be hungry ... real hungry

They were all blues on Eagle Mountain. I can say this...I saw lots of channels being caught at the ramp yesterday. I guess I need to start carrying some punch bait in my boat again.

I just got 2 gallons of Benny's finest. Don't worry, I am not giving up my preference for cut bait.

According to Benny Roberts, the brush like wee I was encountering is called blood weed. I did some research and it also called Giant Ragweed. http://onlinemanuals.txdot.gov/txdotmanu...ay.htm#i1023460

This looks like the weed I saw at the end of Grapevine Lake before it filled up.
