Made my first batch....corn/sugar/yeast/strawberry jello/marshmallows/garlic/water......used some for bait after only 3-4 days. Worked well, I caught 7 channel cats and 2 freshwater drum.

What's the ideal age to sour it? Does it keep getting better and better, or does it get to a point that it won't get any better than that? I guess I could make a trash can of it and use it for....a year? More?

I like this stuff, I've made several more batches, some of them are loaded down with ingredients like diced gizzard shad and oils. I read 2 things on here that I had to take....1 being using a hollow plastic bat to throw it, and the other is making it in clean laundry detergent jugs. I have access to all of the free laundry jugs I need, and I like the idea of using them to haul it to avoid a mess.

If you can either quickly or quietly switch out shells, you can bring home almost anything.

I'm going to try milo soon, I see it mentioned a lot along with wheat. Next time I make some stank corn I think it'll be with cracked corn.

You say to try maze, maize is corn. Did I miss something?

I've been doing more reading on it. I do think that I will avoid whole corn in the future....what I read said that when using whole kernals, the fish are able to eat enough quickly enough to get full and then you're not chumming them, you're feeding them.

I will try milo and/or cracked corn next or possibly hen scratch. I already buy hen scratch for my chickens, so it'll be on hand anyway.

How long do yall like to let it ferment before using it? Mine is bubbling within 2 days. I put 3-4 packs of yeast per half 5 gallon bucket...

Get ya a trash can, low long depends on heat black trash can faster than white. I use 3 paks yeast for 200 lbs, yeast and water is all I use no need for anything else

Corn is fine for baiting holes. I use hen scratch mix. Use cow cake for chumming fishing days easier to handle.

Worst case scenario is you can always boil it in a copper pot and catch the drippins in a mason jar....

Yes, maize is what the rest of the world calls corn. In Texas and probably a lot of other states, we call small grains like milo maize. We also call bluegills perch, even though they are definitely not perch. It's incorrect, but as long as everyone knows what you're talking about, it's OK. smile

I think that jello is going to bring in the carp and drum.

Soured Milo will last a long time but that other stuff you out in it probably won't....but then again...the idea of something being intentially soured and then going bad seems a little crazy.

I'll find out when I use the stuff if it was a good idea or not. I'm sure some won't like it, but I use it as bait in my traps and not really chum. I usually put cheese, Shad, and crushed crawfish, but with this time I'm putting all of that into soured grain.

I might be better off just freezing blocks of each and adding them to the grain when I put it in a trap if the meats aren't attractive once they're so nasty.

Also thought about putting a small chum bag on the end of my trotline sometime
