Our 1989 Glastron has been hanging in the boathouse over dry land for the past 4.5 years. It was well maintained prior to the draught. I'm trying to decide whether to spend the money to have gas drained, carb retooled, filters and batteries changed and whatever else it takes to get it running again. Does anybody have any experience with bringing boats back to life after they've been sitting for several years?

was the engine fogged before it started to sit?

if not I would fog it first, make sure it turns over, and let it sit for a couple of days to get the oil on parts.

My last boat had a '79 Johnson 85hp V-4 on it. It sat in a field for 5yrs when i got it. I drained and cleaned the tank, replaced the primer bulb and line to the engine, mixed up a fairly rich mix, and it busted off and ran great, smoked like a tar kiln though. After the first tank of rich mix, I went to 50:1 with Evinrude oil and ran some seafoam through it to de-carb it. It continued to smoke, but that decreased as I ran through that tank. The motor ran fine for the next 8yrs for me, and has done fine for the last 2yrs with its new owner.

Point being, try running it before getting too warped out of shape about what it might or might not need. No doubt it might need some tlc, but it might surprise you and go right to work.
