Hi all, I didn't want to hijack the other thread about which crappie pole so I started a new one. I have decided on the 8 or 10 ft pro angler rods but I don't know what to get for a reel. I'm not looking for the cheapest or most expensive available. I simply want a decent reel for the money. Pretty much for everything I buy, I have to buy 2, one for my son and one for myself so I double every price I look at.....

Are these good reels? I plan on using 6-8 lb test and using them mainly on brushpiles with either minnows or jigs.

the ex20b model. They seem to have good reviews and are on clearance.

If not, what do you guys suggest?

Really.....I use the lightest, cheapest reel I can get on jigging poles. Most times there isn't a lot of reeling going on.

I mainly use Abu-Garcia Cardinal 101 (it may be 100, don't recall) on my ProAnglers, regardless of length. I just looked it up on BassPro and it looks like the model #s have changed. CARD S10-C I think would be the replacement. These reels perform ok for the fishing I do. When they wear out, I simply replace them. I don't buy them for a lifetime of use. I spider rig so I look at performance plus price point. These are doing ok for me.

BPS Tiny Lite is a good reel for the money! $19.99
It's light and I haven't worn 1 out yet, but will. Then I'll trash can it and buy another.
I love my Pfluegers the best tho. I like the MicroLite best, then Trion next to best. $24.99 to $29.99

I'd suggest the ex10 in that basspro reel. I like a light reel. Another good choice is the Quantum Optix 10 from Academy. Only $19.99. I've got about 10 of those and haven't had a problem yet in 3 years.

Lightest reel I can find works best on jigging rods or even shorter ultra lights for me. I use daiwa d-spin-500-b's. They weigh about half of the reel you linked to. Only costs about $15-$16 from academy or walmart on line. A friend got a 67lb and a 54lb yellow cat in with one (not recommended on a regular basis). They handle crappie just fine and only weighs 5.9oz. I must have 8 or 10 of em. Good luck.

Tbox, Ive got some friends been using them for a few years. I've used em for a year now. No problems. And good thing is if they finally break down just pitch it and get another for that price. Where did you find them for that price? Amazon?
