So work was closed Tuesday due to flooding. I figure might as well walk down to Lake El Butto (retention pond in my neighborhood) and see if fish are biting. Caught a couple decent bass in the 1 1/2-2 lb range on a black buzzbait. Hook into a nice 3 lber. She gives me a good fight so I go into fish fighting stance, using my body slightly leaned back for leverage. She comes to surface and gives a hard headshake, throwing the lure. Now I am off balance. Ordinarily El Butto has flat banks, but they are currently underwater and I am fishing on a muddy slope. First one foot slips out, and the other loses traction. Now I am spinning in a circle on the mud, holding my rod in the air because I may fall and get wet or hurt, but the rod's expensive. Next thing I know, somehow I am airborne. I don't remember jumping, but I am definitely traveling through the air, in the direction of the pond. All I can figure is the energy transfer from the lost fish fueled a helicopter style spin in the mud, which generated enough lift due to no traction to launch me. Anyway, I have just enough time to accept that I am going for a swim, when I somehow land on both feet, on the regular bank, which is now about 8 inches under water.

That's right, I stuck the landing. So I look around to see if anyone saw my performance so I can take a bow, but alas, no watchers.
