Fished the Sabinal River today from 9am till 1pm and the bite was good. Caught about 40 nice Bluegill all in the 7 to 8 inch range and all of em were healthy,fat,and full of fight. Rounding out the catch were a couple of bass in the 1 to 2 pound range along with a couple of Redbreast in the 8 inch range. While I was fishing several showers had came through dropping about an quarter of an inch of rain. The bite continued good and I left em biting. All fish were caught using worms. Both bottom and float techniques were used and all fish were released to fight again. The water was stained in some parts and clear in other areas. There was good current and the river is in excellent condition. After a catching some nice Bluegills I had a FANTASTIC lunch of meat enchiladas with rice and beans along with a tall class of sweet tea at the Lost Maples Cafe in down town Utopia. Catching some super Gills at the start of the Texas Hill Country. It just don't get any better.

Thanks "Gar1970" for the reply. I met a guy while I was fishing who said the same thing. He caught six last week before the storms. He said the smallest was about five pounds and the largest was about nine pounds. Might have been the same person. The guy I was talking to was heavy set with a beard. I have seen Channels in the Sabinal that would easily go over ten pounds. I have also seen some very nice bass.

Glad you could get out and catch a few, Chuck. Watch out for those storms down there. Several bad ones lately.

Thanks Bob for the reply. Yes Sir we have been getting HAMMERED down here. I got over five inches this past week in the backyard gauge and prior to that I had over 4. The banks are extremely slippery and very muddy. The river as stated is in GREAT shape and so are the fish.

Hey Banker, how did all this hill country rain affect Travis? Any of its watershed benefit from the deluges? Sure hope so!

Rudy. Travis just like Lake Medina went up a lot. Lake Medina was at 3 percent full prior to all of this latest rain. It is now over 40 percent full at last time I heard. Travis I think went up over 20 feet. All of the creeks and ponds that I drove by on my up to the Sabinal had water in em. The ponds were completely full.

its a small world lol. agreed there are some big cats and bass in the Sabinal. Having fished that river all my life iv seen and caught some big fish out of there

Man, does that bring me back and make me really want to get back to the SA/Hill Country area all the sooner! I've caught some nice longear from the tailrace to about 4 miles past the dam. WTG, Chuck!
