Do most of you use trotline floats to keep your bait off of the bottom, but near the bottom (heavy weights, light floats) no matter what the water level, or do you sometimes use the floats to keep your baits near the surface during this time of year (late spring/early summer)?
I know a lot of people like to have their bait near the bottom, but off of the bottom when catfishing, but I've also read that catfish go shallow to feed at night.....
If you can either quickly or quietly switch out shells, you can bring home almost anything.

Ive never used floats on a trot line. Tie your line at about water level, then use weights to take the line down to the depth you want. If you want to fish shallow, tie your line about 2 foot under the surface on both ends and make sure the line is tight.
