Alright so im going to visit some family this weekend and on our land there we have a creek that runs directly from the lake and the lake is flooded. All the trees around it were removed. I was thinking I could make a trotline and tie it to a brush pile that's originally 30yds away from the bank but it is now the bank and wade out and have the end tied to a weight ahd i could just throw it out there. I've never done a trotline and I can't find anything about doing one without a boat. Let me know if yall got any ideas or tips. Ill use shad or perch for bait. This is the creek right now

Wade line, rubber band line or drive two post in the water and tie your line between it. No need to have a boat as long as you can handle the cool water wading. Get you a floating minnow bucket to trail your bait along and a dip net to hold your fish. Take a kid along if you can to help and enjoy the experience.

What you are describing is called a throw line:
Throwline

For use in FRESH WATER only. A fishing line with five or less hooks and with one end attached to a permanent fixture. Components of a throwline may also include swivels, snaps, rubber and rigid support structures.

May be used to take NONGAME fish, channel catfish, blue catfish and flathead catfish only.
A valid gear tag must be attached. Gear tag is valid for 10 days after the date set out.

I'm general, I would recommend against wading out into flooded areas. If you choose to do so, where a life jacket.

Seems like the best course of action would be simply to get a rod and go fishing.

Im also gonna use some rod n reels at the lake and in case i dont catch anything there I'll hopefully get something on the throwline. I also just wanna see whats in it. My cousin caught 6 2-5lb blues since it flooded and all we usually have in there is mudcats, channels, and small flatheads

I've been running a few lines from the bank lately along the edge of a small bayou that has spilled over its banks. I wear waders AND a life jacket. I have a Dipnet with a 10' metal pipe handle, I use it to touch the ground before I step to make sure it's not a drop off, and I use it to snag the line and scoop fish. I also drive it into the ground to help me climb when I need it. I tie my line to a limber branch of a small tree on one end, and I attach my other end to a piece of 1/2" PVC. Works well, the PVC bends a bunch.

When the water gets really deep, I drag along a kayak with me.

Been catching channels, but I want to start setting lines for flats....as soon as I get time, time is hard to come by when you have 2 kids under 2 LOL

Good luck!

If you can either quickly or quietly switch out shells, you can bring home almost anything.

you can set a trotline from the bank, just try to find a tree or something on the way out that you can tie to. Remember that trotlines can be pretty long in their legal limit, if i remember right its something like 150 feet and 25 hooks, so you have a fairly good amount of space to work with. Use live bait, though smaller would probably be better in this flooded, dirty water. Something shiny like a Shiner would probably work great. With your throwlines, make sure to note all the requirments, such as a throwline can only have 5 hooks (i think). I also agree with the above posters about being VERY careful walking around in flooded water. Even when not in flooded water, i prefer to use a pvc pipe that is around 6'6" as a walking stick. I mark the stick off in 1 foot increments so that i always know what i am getting into, as well as put a mark where my nose it on the stick. If the nose mark goes under water, i turn around and go somewhere else or try to go around the hole. With flooded areas, it is important to remember that the bank is probably being eaten away, so what you think you remember may not always be there. Good luck with the lines and let us know how you do!!!

Just remember, in order to be a trotline and qualify for more than five hooks, it has to be secured to a fixed object on both sides and tagged on both sides. So I don't think you can run a true "trotline" without a boat.

Check out legal snag lines. Don't quote me but I believe hooks gotta be 3ft apart. If the hooks are sharp enough no need for bait. Be careful in that running water debris and big river rats.

As to the legal bit on trotlines & throwlines, it would only apply to state waters, such as a river or lake. But if lake or creek is on private property, those rules do not apply. Now if it was a public lake, or public river that your land has on it or in it, the rules are in play.

Not looking at pic(s), you do want to be cautious about currents & drop-offs. Wearing a lifejacket might also assist in case you tangle with a big YellowCat.

Yes, you can hammer in two boards to tie on to on both ends. If these are private waters, you could use rebar rods. One of my YellowCat teachers used 1x4s on the sand bar side opposite the rockwall side of the trotline. He would hammer it in about 4 feet of water. It also does not hurt to tie a jug on each end, just in case either board gives.

I'd stick to the throwlines and rod and reels.
In that picture on the link I see fences which means barbed wire and there are all kinds of unseen hazards that can get you in those kinds of conditions.
