Has any one used the Xi5 for crappie fishing. I'm having one put on a new boat. The 2 GPS antenna system is suppose to increase it's accuracy in anchor mode. Hopefully it's tolerance will be good enough to hold over a brush pile. I know I am going to like many features the motor has. The below video makes it look like it's anchor mode would let you fish a brush pile without manually operating the trolling motor.

If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life,
there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

Installed Xi5 on our CC. Make sure you sync hand held remote and foot pedal. Actually you can perform that function in your driveway.

Will that consistent TM running as shown in the video spook the fish below?

It will be about 3 weeks before the boat arrives. After it arrives and I have a period of trying it out, I'll post a follow up.

I installed the motor guide Xi5 on my 19' polar center console this spring. I did a lot of research before deciding to go with this unit. I use hummingbird 899 unit at console which made this a tough decision because mototguide links with lowrance. I have an old lowrance sonar only unit at bow which ended up being plug and play with the motor guide built in transducer which was nice. I mostly crappie fish and wanted a TM with a GPS solution to keep me over a brush pile. This TM is unbelievable, the pinpoint GPS works just as advertised and you can store and override up to 8 positions. I fish Lake Tyler primarily along with most other east texas lakes. I have several brush pile locations stored on my Xi5. As soon as I get within a couple hundred feet from a spot I will simply push the number corresponding to that location and the TM will take over and park you directly over the brush pile and keep you there allowing you to do nothing but fish. I've boated over 200 crappie this spring using this technique. Was on cedar creek today and used it to troll for hybrids. Was able to stay at console and watch my lake master map while controlling the TM with remote to cover the exact areas I wanted to. Caught lots of fish. Works great in wind and have fished all day with it and never had battery issues. Hope this helps.

I have a friend up here in OK that recently installed one on his Lund. He also switched to Garmins on the bow and console.
He claims the same sort of accuracy as Apache does above. He wants to take me out for a demo and as soon as we can I'll report back on here. I know the MK will NOT even come close to doing what we crappie guys need. Been there, done that and it was a costly, frustrating experience. So, before I even consider changing again, I'll have to be shown in as many different scenarios as possible.

Apache - Thanks for the report and welcome to the Crappie Forum.

My understanding of the Xi5 is it has digital (or some kind of new technology) that makes the motor more efficient, thus less drain on batteries. It gets increased accuracy on anchor hold by using two GPS antennas - one in the mount and one in the TM head. It is suppose to be a quiet TM. It has many other neat features. My Xi5 will be networked through bow and console Lowrance HDS units.

Retired fisherman, you will be very happy with this TM, esp integrating with you Lowrance equipment. I have plans to upgrade my bow Lowrance unit at some point. The motor is very quiet and doesn't seem to bother the fish at all. I have a little vibration at very high speed.

Is the Xi5 compatible with the Gen 2`s or just the newer Gen3 units? The reason I ask is because I have the Gen 2 7 hds on my bow and the 12 on my console.

This will be my next big purchase for my boat to go with my HDS-7 Gen 3. The thought that i can simply use this to stay on a pile is exciting to me.
