Fishing currents is something that I am definitely not used to, but with all the releases from the dams it seems to be happening on area lakes. Recently, I was on Lake Worth...which has been spilling over for a while now. I set my anchors according to the light wind. I quickly noticed that my boat was being pushed in the other direction. Regardless of the unexpected current push, my body settled down and I started fishing. I noticed very quickly that the bites where really hard to detect, especially on the ones I throw up current. Any tips for fishing in current?

For catfish, I'd fish current 10 times out of 10 if I had the option.

If you're chumming, I like to find structure and and put the chum in and/ or tight to the cover.

Back off and set baits a few yards up current.

Typically, set baits will work best in currents, however, there are places where a slip cork / punch bait carried by the current to right spots will produce.

The great thing about current is if there are willing fish in the area, it shouldn't take long to find out. No bites in 20-30 minutes, I'd be looking for a new place.

I fish almost exclusively for blues so I rarely chum. I had some pretty good luck at Eagle Mountain lake last night and the current was quite noticeable.

I don't use jugs very often...but I can give you some rod and reel tips if you need some help.

Wind was blowing in the opposite direction than the current. I had one anchor up wind and one up current. The boat just stayed in between two without tightening either line.

If fishing in strong current its easier to anchor up current from the area you want to target and cast your rods down current from the boat. Now if you have a strong wind in your face that makes things a little harder.

I wouldn't say it was a strong current....just strong enough to counteract the wind.

Sorta new to the TFF just wondering if any of you LW guys fish behind the spillway. I always thought it was illegal then channel 5 news was talking to.a young guy who was fishing back there since the flow started. I have been looking for a decent bank fishing catfish hole. Close to LW but I'm open to EM. And does everyone use fresh shad or prefer it over punch bait. Not a total noon but I can never catch a catfish when I "catfish" blame on shallow waters and confinement to the bank.

I use cut shad most of the time since I usually try to target larger fish. I don't know anything about fishing from the bank above Lake Worth. I would imagine those opportunities are limited.

Thanks briantx01. I see you post a lot man and that kitty is huge man. I just started to get more into cat fishing and I grew up in lakeside a block from water on LW. I know its a good lake for the cats. I was also referring to the river behind the LW spillway not up past the nature center though my cousins landlords were the guys who lived at Vance's camp so I am familiar with that river. And yes I wish I could pay the Nature Center a fee and fish off the boardwalk side I'll probably get a boat though when I get done with college something cheap

I love the current. I take big gizzard shad and filet (or fillet?) them and put the entire side, guts and all, on the circle hook and let it flop around out there in the current. You don't need to detect the bite, they'll grab it and even if they go neutral they'll drift and that'll be that.

The faster the better . Have fished the big muddy and they all back bounce there baits to the holes. Fish down stream of boat use light enough weight in current that when you pick up you let about 8 inches out at a time. Pretty freaking fun once you learn how, oh and hold on to that rod cause they don't nibble they slam
