New to kayak fishing and new to the site. ... Wanting to take my brother-in-law out for graduation. We both have fishing kayaks and are from Mansfield. I've hear really good things about Purtis Creek... Anyone have any success here? Just trying to find the best places to go if we were to plan a weekend or something to go. Thanks in advance!

Purtis Creek is a great kayak lake. With all this rain I would call ahead and make sure they haven't shut the lake down due to flooding.

From Mansfield, you are actually pretty close to Wheeler Branch in Glen Rose and it is popular with the Kayak crowd. Yesterday, even with looming storms making their way toward the area, there were about 8 or 10 kayaks out on the water in the pre-noon hours.
It is a trolling-only lake so that, too, makes it very nice for kayakers. And, it is likely the clearest water you'll find on any lake near the Metroplex.
Fishing? It can be a very productive fishery with a nice population of LMB, some SMBs and walleye. And, it is a good catfish lake I hear.
Of late, it has suffered from all of the new water, in its case water being pumped in from the Paluxy River.
7AM until dusk every day but no overnight camping if that was what you meant. But, there are areas outside of the lake for that.

Thank yall for the info. Looks like we might get a slight break from the weather next week, either way it will stop rainin eventually. Until then, my boss at home has let me know that I cannot take the kayak out until the waters go down. We will see about that. I know I won't get a chance to for a couple of weeks due to being out of town, but once we get back, it will be hard to stay away from the lake on a nice weekend.
