Yesterday I decided to check out the new Miller bridge construction, and I see a dam north and a dam south of the bridge. Does anyone know if these are permanent? The dam south of the bridge looks like it may just be for moving equipment back and forth and may be temporary, but the north dam looks bigger, taller, and more permanent.

I hope these are taken down after construction is completed.

I got confirmation from the city of Garland that the dams will be removed once the reinforcement of the banks below the bridge is complete. The creek will resume its normal flow.

Good to hear! Thanks for the update. I plan on giving that place another try next year if the lake gets some water (rain) maybe the run will be better. What about the parking at Miller rd. any word on that is it still going to be available?

New parking lot will probably be the last thing to go in. Likely looking at summer 2016 for that. I don't see any way to park there now in its current state. I think I'm just going to get a kayak and fish from the mouth of the creek up to wherever the water levels allow.

I just got a kayak just last week never thought about trying to paddle in from the lake where would you put in from? I may have to try that sometime. Let me know if you want someone to join you. Hopefully we get some rain this year during the fall and winter.

I don't really know, I haven't bought a kayak yet. I'm planning to go to the Second Saturday thing at White Rock Lake this month where they let you try out kayaks for free in exchange for helping clean up the area in the kayak. After that, I think I'll have a better idea of the size and type I'll buy.

If the lake would ever fill back up, you could park and put in on the Garland side of Rowlett Rd. There's a parking lot and a boat ramp. You'd just paddle next to the bridge a bit, and you'd be in the creek. Right now that's just a bunch of mud and grass. So I guess my plan depends on a lot of rain. If there's a good access point off 190, that might work since it's not too terribly far across that part of the lake. It still has water to my knowledge.

I'm just looking at Google Maps, and I'm thinking the distances I'd have to cover without significant rainfall might push me towards a longer thinner kayak.

I hear that on the rain low water levels are making everything difficult for now. Hopefully with a little luck we can get enough rain. I picked a 10 ft kayak but I'm hauling it on my car's roof so anything bigger or more expensive was out for me. I found a perception sport pescador on craigslist. Those kayak demo's are a good idea I had a buddy go to one and said it was an educational experience. I had an inflatable all summer and it was awful but it got me on the water until it started getting leaks. Just hoping to get more time in mine before it gets cold. I'm ready for spring already!

due to low water levels, that creek is almost worthless at the moment. Crappie will not migrate up there in the winter for like the 4th or 5th year in a row now. Sand bass and Hybrids didn't really go past Miller this year. Next spring, with no rain, The fish wont even be able to get into the creeks at all. Even Creek X, Trinity River, and Hickory will be cut off.

Hopefully the El Ni�o being predicted will get us back on track. It's supposed to start this month and last through February. Crossing my fingers.

Wow, I drove to Garland today from Rowlett and took Rowlett Rd over the "lake". I hadn't gone that way in quite a while. What a pitiful sight. It's going to take a lot more than just a rainy winter. Herons are standing ankle deep in what's left of the water near the bridge. The vegetation that took over the lake bed is even turning brown at the far ends for lack of water.

It can happen I remember Lavon back 2005 to 2006 got really bad about like it is now and I thought it would take months of rain for it get back to full level. Then we had a crazy bunch of rain later in the year 06 I believe and the lake filled back up in about 4 days of constant rain. I was eating my words then. Hopefully that will happen again.
You can see the drought in the middle of 2002 and 2012 on the chart and the spike where it jumped back up to flood pool. I have to look at the lake every day and watch the misery of the water drop and try to come back up.... Lavon is supposed to be like 21,000 surface acres or so. Its about 13,600 now. Ray Hubbard is really bad, too. But it can happen...... fingers crossed!

No kidding right! I want to go out fish already but this rain and wind is making it difficult right now.
