Stay in Brandon or Pearl. Both are safe places.

http://www.super8.com/hotels/mississippi/madison/super-8-madison-ridgeland-area/hotel-overviewI recently stayed at the Super 8 in the Madison area. Good parking for your boat. Ask for a downstairs end room on the front. Plenty of room to back your boat in and not have to unhook. Four of us with boats stayed there and had good parking for our boats. Let the clerk know you have a boat---if you are taking a boat. This location is safe and is approximately 20 minutes from the boat ramps---north and south.

Lots of folks stayed in Flowood for Open. brandon and pearl good but Flowood closer to the Reservoir. Camp grounds on Rankin county side are good also. Just do not stay in Jackson. I live in Brandon and things are pretty good here.
