I've been pondering this again lately and just wondered how much of the expense of running a team do you guys handle? What do you expect the students or parents to pay for and what do you pay for? Do you provide tackle, if so how much? How much do you practice? What are the entry fees for most HS tournaments?

I graduated 2014, then the entry fee was $40 a team and you were expected to have your own tackle and rods. Now with that said, some may not have, but their boat captains would know and they would always have something worked out. Many let us use their equipment if needed. Most boat captains were very generous and usually didn't ask for gas money back, the school helped their students through the sponsor donations and things like that. There was a lunch provided after the tournament, and if there wasn't going to be they let us know. The student can practice as much as they wanted to, unless there were off limit days. The sponsors donations also went towards jerseys and things like that. If you want more info, you can pm people like, Ken starling, blueovalbass, and other high school captains on the forum. If you search high school bass club previous forums should pop up.

I don't mind letting the students use my tackle at all but I would expect them to bring what they have, even if it is just one combo. I figured I'd provide things like replacement line, ETC. and as much tackle as I have providing all the lures wouldn't be a problem either. Fuel I figure I'll cover. Parents by the jersey's and the entry fees. I assume this will be 2 kids per team? The meals at the end of the day would be a definite bonus. Teenagers and captains can work up and appetite but we can pack food and drinks too. How many tournaments are held a year in our area and at what interval?

Here is what I do with my squad.
Luckily , I have some pretty good sponsors that donate money for the team to use all year. I do make my kids to pay for 1/2 off their jerseys($35) them reason being, some just want a cool jersey to wear and if they pay for 1/2 then maybe they will at least fish. I cover the membership to the main association we will be fishing(THSBA)$25 a year. I also cover the entry fees, this year was $40 a team. If we stay overnight, I try and help with that as well, it is not always possible, depends on the funds available.
Students are responsible for helping with gas , if boat captains ask. Most of the time they don't ask for anything, I like the kids to at least offer.
The tackle is the same, most of these kids have very little, local clubs donate tackle, rods, reels etc... We all have stuff we don't need or use anymore.
So to kinda wrap it up.
Students spend usually $100 or less for the season.
Teams, I usually figure around $300 a kid to cover ,entry fees, jerseys, memberships and some of the travel.

Hope this helps out some

We normally fish. 5 event schedule, with a 2 day championship. We will start in the Late Summer, early fall. Sometime after school, starts back. The first event is normally September, then we try to have one in October, November, then skip winter and start back in late February or March then finish the Opens in April. Then have the Championship in May.

Most kids bring their own gear, usually 1-2 combos and a small tackle box. Then also bring snacks and whatnot. They usually don't have rain gear or cold weather gear.. The best thing is to pair up the kids with a captain at the beginning of the year and keep them that way. This way the captains know what the kids have and whatnot.

That is about the same for us Ken. It is not too expensive on the kids.

I've captained for two schools now and have been involved in several tourneys with them so as a somewhat unbiased participant, here's my take.
Some have no tackle, some show up with 3 baits in a plastic box. Same with rods/reels. Most of them are still learning how to cast so precise presentations can be a challenge. (Hanging up on docks, trees, boats and each other do not fall under precision presentations- they seem to have that mastered)
I've been offered money for fuel, etc and I've also not been offered. Didn't and wouldn't take it so that's not a problem for me.
With the exception of a couple of my personal technique specific rods, I share equipment with them as needed. Same with baits.
I do strongly suggest that as a captain, you read the rules for EVERY tourney. They seem to have minor changes foe some lakes in addition to their standard rules. Not a big deal BUT do not count on the boys or the team advisor to always know these or share them with you. If you have questions about procedure and such - wear out Ken Starling, it's what I do. (Your welcome Ken )
HS fishing is big and getting bigger. The one thing that you will see on most of the kids faces is desire. Desire to learn, desire to catch fish and desire to be on the water. All of the boys I've carried have shared that.

That's the main thing I'd like to do is not have it to expensive for them to participate. I live in the Cooper/Delta County area and we don't have a lot of businesses here and the ones that are her are asked to sponsor something on a daily basis darn near it. I run a car show here and I was able to get some of the bigger names in the aftermarket auto industry to help me out after I sent them an e-mail an explained my situation. I just wonder if I could do the same thing in this situation. Even if I got nothing but some lures and fishing line that would help..........
