I have slowly been converting all my reels to braid. I fish both bait casters and spinning reels. I have been reading a lot of the post recently about braid and leaders. If I missed this, I apologize. Do you go straight braid to finesse rigs ( wacky, t-rig, shaky head, etc, or due you use a leader and if so how long?
God Bless and Thank you!

You'll get a ton of different views on this. Here's mine
Flipping, pitching, spinner/buzz, basically any moving bait I use straight braid. Carolina rig- mono or floro leader. Texas rig, jerk bait, sluggo/senko straight mono/floro.
Water clarity will change this somewhat bu not. Much. I've never understood the leader thing except Carolina rig. I use braid for the strength and castability. Seems like it's just one more knot to break just my 02

I put a floro leader on everything except frogs and punching through the thick stuff. Anywhere from 2-6 feet.

Maybe someone on here can explain why you need a fluro-leader,i fish yellow spiderwire braid on all my crappie rods and to date, i have caught 2bass over 6lb...2 in the 7lb.range 3in the 8 lb. range, 1 in the 9lb. ...1- 10.8...1- 11.4 if they are afraid of the braid, YOU NEED TO REMIND THEM THEY ARE not supposed to hit it. This ain't B/S i can prove it with pic's!~!! scared

I would agree with you , but then we would both be WRONG !!!!!

I use 30lb Stren braid in dark green color. It maintains the color really well. I think its fine to use it tied directly to moving baits. But I use a leader on my shakey head rod and my carolina rig. The reason to use floro leader is it is nearly invisible in water.. I forget the reason, but something to do with a characteristic of floro carbon is its just about invisible in water. Next time out though, I'm going to try a mono (Stren 12lb in lowviz green) leader on my carolina rig.. since Mono floats and floro sinks. I want to keep the bait up.

Another reason for the leader is it does not dig into wood like braid does, makes a big difference for me.

I don't buy into the "line shy" theory professed that says the Bass see the line and won't bite. I catch bass of every type of lure made and use straight Braid. When fishing with someone in the same Boat and same lures, I catch as many as the other guy with Mono or Fluro. Most of this seems to be pushed by folks paid by the manufacturers to sell Fluro. I just started using a Fluro leader on my crankbaits but that is just to eliminate the hassle of the Braid wrapping around the treble hooks. Braid is so limp is can cause some issues and the stiffer Fluro can help in this.

Bud... I made the switch this year. 1. I'm in abilene. My main lake is red so visibility isn't a problem. I keep loosing squarebills(maybe 4 a day) due to rocks or mostly other fishin line. With the braid I can straitened hooks and replace them later and not loose a $4 hard bait. 2. Confidence that if you hook an 8 pd bass it won't break 40 pd braid so that's a piece of mind when hooking a good one. But if you fish a clear lake braid might not be your choice and cast ability decreases

Also I spoil cheap 50 pound line half way and put a layer of Teflon tape and then put my braid on to save money

I purchased a Line Counter at Academy and just measure 75yds or 225ft of Braid and the rest of the spool is cheap Mono with a wrap of electrical tape on top of that. Then I just splice the Braid to that. Daiwa Samurai is my choice

Yall keep telling yourself bass don't see ur line...... Reaction baits no issue on straight braid, heavy flipping(punching grass/timber) not bad either still reaction bite when bait falls down into there spot they just eat it. T-rigs, c-rig jigs I don't like straight braid just my opinion. I have tried it and seem to get less bites so floro for me
