are there big gator gar in these lakes im trying to find some gar on lakes instead of rivers
lake somerville
lake palastine
richland chambers
looking for a good gator gar lake within about 2 hour of austin
im gonna head back to choke canyon these weekend and try my luck again i saw a few but not many when i was there before but did see one 6 foot gar
are there any other lakes in central tx that have them in decent numbers?
trying to avoid going all the way to lake livingston or sam rayburn or lake houston if possible

You want to chase some gar, Somerville has some, but the kings are in
the Trinity River..... You have an old junker jon boat, some big head
lights, and I mean bright 2000 Lumen bright... you will find some big ones
on the Trinity. Just remember here in TX, there is a 1 gar limit in
todays waterways!

I'd say you find some 4ft plus in the lake if your lucky to catch one!
Years ago my uncle and dad put some lines out, at nails creek, in
the upper yeagu where it narrows and one night there was a about a 4 1/2'
ft one one the line, made a mess of the lines, some work getting him
in the boat, and no we did not release him!
Boat paddle over the head i believe was the solution at the time!

You want to see a big gar, check out the news up at Lake Texoma couple weeks
ago and fellow landed a almost a 9ft gar with a rod/reel fishing, never
did mention what he was using for bait! but it took some serious hardware
to get him!

About like Jeremy Wade on River Monsters...... like his tackle!

cheers, be safe.....

Hey Henry you can fish in the ditch over here. Lol.

I went to check up on a spot and drove up on a guy standing in the road bowfishing.

None in palestine. Some in chambers. More in choke than chambers.

The limit on Falcon Lake ONLY will go to five (5) per day starting September first.. All other Texas waters will remain at one fish per day..

Right now the gar are all over at Falcon, whether you want to catch or kill one.. They are very active..

Come get you some..

I know for a fact that there are many many many small gars on Lake Somerville. We have caught up to 30 in one day just using a small hook and some cut perch. We did this last week at rocky creek park when the water was really high. If there are small gars then the big ones are there as well.

There are spotted and long nose. Not many if any gator gar. Betting you caught spots out there. Got a pic? Had some 4' gar tearing shad up at pond lake. Coming out of the water like tarpon. What a sight! But they weren't gator gar.(at Somerville)

I really don't know. Most of them were small but I assumed if they have a short snout then they were alligator gar.
