Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

John Weisman from Iowa along with his wife, Mary, and two children, Michael and Sierra, chartered the Topshotfishig team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 7-10 mph, seas running 3-4 ft., temperature in the mid 80s.

As John and his family boarded the boat, Michael asked if he could catch a Shark. I told him that if the fish gods would let him play with one, he will. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL, 1.8 miles from shore.

We started off trolling with two plainers down, one with an orange and purple sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip and the other with a 3 blue reflector drone spoon. For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. As we trolled the reefs, ranging from 80 ft. of water out to 160 ft, the family reeled in four Kingfish, three Bonitos and two Tunas.

It was now time to switch over to Shark fishing. I went out to 380 ft. of water putting out a surface, bottom and midrange Shark baits, along with one kite with two live Goggle Eyes. Michael sat there saying, here fishy fishy, come up Shark. A while later a dorsal fin circled one of the kite baits and ate one of the Goggle Eyes. As line screamed off the reel, Michael hopped into the fighting chair to start his journey on his quest. Forty-five minutes later, Michael brought the estimated 280 lb Hammerhead Shark to the boat for picture taking, and David, our mate, released the Shark to do battle again.

With the Shark free and Michael happy with his accomplishment, it was time to head back to the dock; the anglers went into the a/c salon for the ride back to the Bahia Mar Marina at 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
