Went out on Hubbard this evening, and I was fishing the rip rap where I know they've been recently. I didn't get a single bite. Did the cooler weather send them deeper?

Well, I haven't been doing THAT good, but I've been doing good for me. I haven't bee out since Saturday, but today was quite a bit cooler. Only 65 degrees, so I thought maybe that was it.

Cooler temps slow them down. Spawn would last till end of june and they will stay close to the rocks till july.
fishing is one thing. catching is another

Try fishing outside edge of the weeds. Channels are in the pre-spawn gorging mode right now. Eating everything and anything.
From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."
Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

tthey'ze chasin gals ... this is the start of the spawn ... once the females get their eggs laid then they'll be back out biting but the male channels, the blue ones will be guarding the eggs for a few weeks. mature male channels turn real blue by this time of year when they're going on the nests .. if you catch them after the spawn, might as well release them as they're not fit to eat for a while or until they fatten back up as their meat is mushy right after the spawn up until they get some food into them. Be better for your lake if you release those big males anyhow cause they're the baby makers.
