Let's give this live reporting another shot.

This Friday while y'all are counting down the hours at work for the holiday weekend to commence I'll be getting blown around some flat around Aransas Pass. Which flat? At this moment I'm still debating it, but the leading candidates are Dagger Flats, South Bay, or making a haul farther south to Bird Island Basin.

Sunrise is about 6:30 am so I'm going to tentatively say I'll be launching around 6:00am and plan on getting off the water around noon.

Here's the current forecast for Friday:
Winds will be around 10 mph when launching increasing to 15mph with gusts around 20mph with a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms all day long.

Low tide at 12:17 am (0.12' MLLW) with high tide at 12:29 pm (1.14' MLLW). So right at a foot of tidal movement, but according to the forecast I'm only going to see about 4" of tidal movement in the 6 hours I plan to fish (6:00 am - 12:00 pm) whereas the first six hours of the tidal movement saw 8" of movement. Not great, but better than no movement.

However, according to the actual measured data at that gauge the tides are about 6" higher than forecasted. So, I have to adjust the forecast levels up. This is partially due to the amount of runoff coming into the systems, but mostly it's May and spring tides always run higher.

So, just to recap: It's going to be windy; I may get forced off the water due to thunderstorms; the tides are really high; I'm fishing the end of an incoming tide; the bays are diluted with significant, prolonged runoff; and I'll be running on very little sleep. Not exactly ideal conditions, but F it, I've got that itch and it needs a good scratching.

Looks like there's going to be a bit more runoff tomorrow morning.

6.5 hours? Seems about right. I'm locked and loaded and and heading south.

Whelp, I made it to the cabin a little before midnight. The front must have came farther south than expected because I've got a stiff, unforecasted NE wind right now. Other than that tomorrow's (or later today depending on how you want to look at it) forecast hasn't changed much. I've cracked open my "made it down safely" Lone Star Light and am reviewing some aerial maps, still undecided about tomorrow.

Ok, ready to launch off of Sunray Rd near Ingleside. Most of the storms seem to be tracking closer to Rockport so I should be OK. I've got my light east winds which should make for an easy paddle to Dagger Point. This is a great flat that I haven't fished in a few years. It's surrounded by deep water, should get decent tidal influence, is mainly 4ft deep and a couple of back lakes that should be holding a red or two.

Lure selection is Spectrum SS Jr., fold spoon, and a yet to be determined soft plastic color.

And there are absolutely NO mosquitos.
