I'm actually proud of how this turned out! It's a combination of a fertilizer spreader and a keyboard stand. Waaay easier than the other stuff I had been trying to piece together!

With those wheels being for a spreader you might want to check and see how it holds up with a heavy kayak on top. Kayak weighs alot more than the spreader ever did lol.

Holds up great to my loaded Jackson Cuda 14 on rough terrain! The spreader wasn't a wallyworld Chinese wonder.. I scrounged it from a commercial landscaper who was trashing it. BUT, if those wheels should fail I have MANY replacement options! 'Blessed are the pessimists, for they hath made backups'... lol!

They are cheap and I have several sets. However they're heavy too. Now at least with pneumatics your cart might float if you had to carry it on the yak! With this one you need pool noodles everywhere. Maybe y'all haven't seen what commercial spreader wheels look like...and I KNOW y'all don't know me and my over engineering ways! Take the mod for what it's worth, every bit of the DIY adventure is based on ingenuity and imagination. Your mileage will vary.

Not much different for pneumatic, here's what you need: 5/8" all thread 4 nuts for all thread 2 large washers 2 pneumatic tires You will have to experiment to get the proper 'standoff' so your wheels don't rub the frame--IF you use the same components I did for the cart itself.

However they're heavy too. Have been looking for solutions (short of dropping $150) to my pvc/pneumatic tire cart weight issue for a while. Nice build.

Thanks! The pneumatics are the easiest to source and not expensive. I was excited to have a light and strong wheel/tire setup. Heck I even have a set of composite wheels and solid tires that I scrounged off of something long ago! You should see my garage of scrounged stuff...well maybe not. I could weld up several carts but this one didn't even need that level of work! Bike rides down the alleys yield lots of DIY 'fodder'!
So far the roughest place I've used it is about 200yd of the white rock road at South Lake. Pneumatics would have been a smoother ride!

Made one using plans from the internet the other day. Went with hard plastic tires that were "laying round" in the garage. At some point, will switch to pneumatics! Posted info on our blog. Here are details on how we made it - Kayak Cart... and here is a test run where we used it to fish a local lake - Kayak Cart Worked; Fished Brockdale. Road got bumpy near the boat ramp; pneumatics would have made a difference!
