The post about release for the trout I believe is in-correct. The GRTU has no control of how much water is released. This is all controlled by water rights and the LCRA. If the GRTU had a say in it we would have the flow increased to save fish like this downstream. FI
I'm a humble fisherman in the service of our Lord. Started fishin at 5 years old and can't stop. I've owned a boat every day from age 16. I fish for every type of fish in every different way.

Wow, just last week I flew over the lake and you could see a toilet bowl ring around the lake from being so low.

Officially, Canyon is still 4.39 feet low. But that is such an improvement over 12.08 feet low it can be considered full. LOL

The corp only controls outflow at 909 and above.
GBRA is responsible for reservoir water management and release within the 'conservation pool,' between 800 feet mean sea level (msl) and the normal operating elevation of 909 msl. The Corps is responsible for management and release of waters within the 'flood control pool' at elevations of 909 to 943 msl.

Thanks. That helps explain some of the politics of water releases from Canyon Lake.

And...they are forecasting a lot of rain in the next three days...and they have a flash flood watch in that area. This is very exciting. I've never seen Canyon Lake less then 8 ft low let alone full. Tomorow I'm going to see what it looks like 3.5 ft low and if it's not overrun by pleasure boaters do some fishing as well.
Any change of tactics with the water rising so fast and so high?
How come I keep catching small fish when every product I buy is supposed to catch more and bigger fish?

There is a pic in this thread with the lake at 4.5' below full capacity and you can see all the flooded willows and grass. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...ak#Post10857902During the tournament last Thursday it was tough for everyone, but a lot of guys were throwing in that new flooded vegetation and their were no fish in there. Just a bunch of gar. The winners fished way off shore, and the 2nd place team fished flats with swimbaits in 6-8ft of water along the old vegetation where the bank used to be before the lake started rising.

Oh Yes...It's pouring down on Canyon Lake and the whole area of the Guad between Canyon and Kerville. It won't be much longer until it's completely full...few days at most

Choke can pick up water from a large watershed that reaches all the way up into the hills where the Frio headwaters begin around Leakey and right now they are getting some serious rains. Medina on the other hand has that small watershed where it can rain all around, but if it doesn't rain in those hills around the town of Medina and the Bandera area the lake will get very little help. Choke should get a good boost from these rains!
Just one more cast!
