Found some older baits floating in the lake today, some sort of popper and a smith wick prop bait. I have never fish a prop bait before so I figured I would refinish this one. What are some productive patterns to try?

Looks like a Smithwick Devil's Horse

Popular patterns for prop baits.
Clear water: Clear, ghost, shiner/minnow/shad, bluegill
Stained: Bone, black shiner, black bird

I throw ghost shad in clear water; bone and black in stained.

I would throw some split rings and short shanks on that devils horse and fish it as is.

blue/silver shad color would be good on the devils horse

That devils horse brings back memories, dad used to smoke 'em on one exactly like that.

Pattern it after my spook. It sure has been good to me.

Be careful with that back hook on the devil horse, the body looks split. It could just be an artifact in the picture too, hard to tell. But if it IS split, a decent sized fish could finish the job if you don't glue it.

I don't think the body is split it looks like the paint is cracked, but I will be stripping it down this weekend and will be sure to make repairs if needed. Thanks for the suggestions guys I'm still not exactly sure how I'm going to paint it.
