Missed out on going with some buddies this Saturday afternoon to fish the Brazos just below PK. I've heard that the stretch of river between the bridge and the dam holds some good fish but haven't heard of anyone catching any smallmouth since the golden algae wreaked havoc on PK. However, one of my buddies Dale managed to catch this dude while they were out there on Saturday.

Anyone else heard of any smallies being caught on the Brazos between PK and Granbury recently? Looks like the last time they stocked them in PK according to TPWD's website was the early 90's.

Couple years ago I was catching small ones in the winter while trout fishing nearly every trip. Haven't had any luck since then

They stocked quite a few in there a few years back and I have heard they are doing pretty well. Had a buddy catch several floating downstream on a kayak a few months ago they were all about that size.

Buddies been out there three times this week and done well. Hoping the storms don't mess up our plans for Friday.

I've caught a few smalls in that same area over the years. The largest one so far was caught by cheating though, grasshopper under a bobber.

I work about a mile away from the Brazos and they are starting to evacuate some of the Bends south of me and shutting down all kinds of bridges...I know its a bit futile to complain about all my fishing holes getting blown out with all the people that are in danger of the flooding so I will refrain. Sounds crazy but it looks to me like its flowing 12-15' higher than normal pretty unbelievable considering what its looked like the past few years.

I heard the same thing. My parents drove down there this morning and took the north entrance because my mom was scared water might be over it. I never thought I would see it flow like that...

Last spring I fished down there 2-3 days a week or more from March through May (was working nearby). I had my best luck fishing the large hole about 3/8 mile upstream from the bridge. Bring a float or kayak, b/c the better fishing is on the south side, tough to bank fish, and no way to wade across close enough. I only got to fish that spot from a tube a few times, but it was pretty good throwing a foam grasshopper fly for everything. Caught about a 14" smallie downstream once, but in that hole I caught largemouth, spots, and some that definitely had some smallmouth genetics in them. Biggest bass was prob. 16" or so.

No fish is too good for the grease.

I slammed a 4 lber this spring over there. I actually saw a white or striped crossed with a black. I'll see if I can't find the pic and I'll post it. Hang tight!
