I'm just wondering if anyone has ever fished this river? I'm looking at Memorial day fishing plans and I need a back up plan in case the USACE decides blow out Broken Bow like they did in 2009. Since it looks like just about everywhere in Arkansas will be generating because of water levels, this has become my plan B. I realize that I'm probably crazy to try and fish anywhere during Memorial Day weekend with all the crowds, but I'm getting a 3 and a half day weekend here. What am I gonna do, not fish?

Anyways I've done a little research on it and seems like the flows are within fishable range right now and they aren't supposed to get nearly as much rain this week as Broken Bow is. It seems like a pretty good spot from what I can tell. I was just wanting to know if anyone has ever fished here and could offer any advice?

Check the "Little Mo" fishing board.

I've been there lots of times...my wife's family is from very near there. If you have more specific questions, let me know.

I'd skip the Montauk trout park and head for the actual river. The fishing pressure is light compared to what you're used to on LMF. I've had good luck parking at the Baptist Camp access and working downstream as far as possible before the water gets too deep to wade across, and then wading back up stream all the way to Tan Vat access, where my wife will pick me up.

You can also float the river and fish as you go.

I've had success on midge larva patterns, eggs, and olive mohair leeches in size 6 or 8. Lots of people like to use crackebacks, but I never have used them

There are lots of browns in the river.

This is a good forum: http://forums.ozarkanglers.com/forum/10-current-river/

If I remember, I can post some pictures when I get home tonight.

Thanks for the reply. I actually already made the trip and I was really impressed. I avoided the trout park and hit Tan Vat on Saturday morning and Baptist downstream saturday afternoon. Then hit Tan Vat again on Sunday morning. I didn't catch as many fish as I would normally at the LMF, but I'm sure a lot of that is just not knowing the river as well. It didn't seem like the fish population was as high, seeing as it's not a tailwater and doesn't really get stocked, but the average fish size was higher and when you found a good hole you could generally get into a bunch of them. No pics unfortunately, but did catch a nice 17" brown downstream from Tan Vat and several nice rainbows. Most of my best fish came on a stonefly nymph. I'll definitely be heading back at some point. Also, I did check out the OAF before heading down and people were very happy to help out.
