I am wanting to learn how to catch these fish below the spillway on Lake Tyler. With all the rain the water is flowing pretty good. Will they bite small jigs like you use for sandbass? Do I need to use sweet corn on a small hook under a float? Any advice will help.

I would not try a float in any kind of current for carp. Use a carolina type rig and fish on the bottom in slack water if you can find it. Chum with some corn if you can. Keep an eye on your rig so that it doesn't get jerked into the water. Good luck, and let us know how you do.

I was hooking them at that location on a Ned rig in shad color the other day. I noticed they seemed to be feeding on the abundant baitfish. Had two large fish actively hit the bait. Hook pulled twice.

your right buffs are usually the culprit, but these were definitely carp. I was in waders and the water was clear. Fish were swimming around my legs and I was just pitching to them. Lol

Next time this happens, get some white bread and throw out a few small pieces on the surface, try to get them to float. Once the Carp on sucking em down on the surface, place 1 on a hook with no weight and see if you can reel em in. wink

I went yesterday for a while. Wore hip waders like Fishwfly. I caught 1 small needlenose gar on a white sandbass jig. The water is churning and rolling pretty fast down there right now. Don't really know how deep it is, maybe 3 or 4 feet around the outside areas. Fishwfly let me know when you go again and I will meet you out there. It would have to be after work about 5:30 PM.

I used to catch buffalo on 3/4 to 1 ounce yellow bucltails at Texarcana when the flood gates were open. Heck of a fight in current.
