Do people use different trotline designs when fishing rivers or lakes, or do you just use the same design?

I'm asking about any details, like heavy weight, floats, no weights, anything really.


Also, what's your favorite all around trotline baits?

In rivers we always just used throw lines and drop lines with live perch. Knowing what I know now I would have baited half live perch, half cut shad. I think we could've caught a lot more big blues if we woulda used shad more.

I will use short five to ten hook trotlines in rivers. I use a double swivel if a good current, otherwise use same equipment as long lake lines. Bait depends on availability, but prefer live sunfish for yellow cats, shrimp, grasshoppers, goldfish, any smaller bait for channels.
