Do you use a TYPE V PFD (suspenders or inflatable) while tournament fishing?. Do you take it off when fishing? If so, unless you have another TYPE I, II or III PFD in the boat, you have DISQUALIFIED yourself and your partner. They MUST be worn to be counted as a regulation PFD. http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/boat/safety/life_jackets/ TYPE V (Hybrid Device) Required to be worn to be counted as a regulation PFD. Advantages: Least bulky of all Types. High flotation when inflated. Good for continuous wear. Disadvantages: May not adequately float some wearers unless partially inflated. Requires active use and care of inflation chamber.Seeing tournament fishermen take them off while fishing is a very common thing, even the pro's do it during televised Tournaments. Other states may have different laws but in TEXAS keep it on. It would be a shame to be DQ'd by a Polygraph operator or TD who knows the law not to mention being protested by another angler.

Almost all inflatable PFDs we buy for fishing in the US today (and certainly all the leading products) are certified as Type III and quite a few are now even certified as Type II. Read the mandatory labeling required to learn which type you have.
Type II inflatable PFDs offered today offer superior support with virtually no more weight or bulk as compared to the Type V products available before today's improved products were available.
