Basically wondering if I can swap in the 8.1:1 gears of the type R into a regular 7.3:1 Tatula. Looking at the regular Tatula schematic it looks like I could get away with getting the pinion gear and main drive gear. The drag washer has the same part number across all gear ratios. You think that would work? Guess I could try it and post results. Just wondering if anyone else knew or not. Thanks!

I'd say it would work if the drag washers are the same...which most likely means the gear thickness is the same

Can you also swap the spool in? I think those are the only main differences is the lighter spool and that you can get the type R in 8.1 to 1

Check out TackleTour.com and look up Shop Talk and go to maintenance & Super Tuning there you'll find answers you are looking for. Everyone there is great about how they tune their reels.

Spool swap should work just fine. You can also use the spool from the JDM version of the Tatula (lighter weight and shallower) if you want as well. Im pretty confident the gear swap should work. Ive done a similar swap on a Citica I had and it worked just fine.
