Per AMWA "Lake Athens is still closed with NO known date for re-opening". For information about the lake, contact Athens Municipal Water Authority. 903-804-8501

Easier to catch a rock than a crappie out there now is what they been saying. Sure hope they get Athens back open in two weeks, had it penciled in on the calendar.

Well its only 1.4 ft high, so figure they are going to get some more rain in the next few days, but hopefully it comes down a foot or so in the next week or two.

Saw a guy pull in with his boat about 11:00 am, I hope he did not drive to far, but most locals know the lake is closed.

don't have a clue as to why it is still closed. was there yesterday & today and the water has dropped and there should be no floaters with the wind blowing in the same direction for 3 days. I guess they just don't want boat wakes pushing water up into people's back doors. I sure know some good rocks and "decorations" that could be holding fish. Guess I'll be fishing Palestine in the morning

I'm used to the SE Texas reservoirs that have huge fluctuations. We don't blink an eye at 1.4' high! We've fished back in the forest at times when the lakes were really up. Was it really necessary to close the lake to all traffic at that level?

It is likely to preserve docks and walkways of which many under water. Boat wakes roll under them and knock boards loose and end up as floaters on the lake. Might be another week if the rain keeps up.
