I heard thru the vine the SRA is planning another lake outside Winnsboro to feed Fork. Anybody to validate that?

If I remember right that has been talked about a lot but people don't want to sell their land.

If y'all are talking about Marvin Nichols it'll never happen. Too much high dollar timber land would go under and that's a big part of our industry in these parts

Marvin Nichols is proposed on the Sulfur River, and I believe it will eventually happen...although who knows when. DFW has gained millions of people since the last reservoir was built. I know there is a lot of opposition to putting another DFW reservoir in East Texas.

Marvin Nichols project expected to start this year or Jan 16. Got a buddy who hunts that bottom and he was told to have all stands and feeders out of the bottom by Dec 31/15, so I guess than means it is coming. IMO

The Heart's Bluff Game Ranch is one of the main reasons there has been so much public outcry. I was the ranch manager when they first purchased the property. It will be a damn shame if that reservoir is eventually pushed through...

Yes sir, I read that earlier. There was a lot more history/drama than that brief covered. Its a shame how all of that went down...

My 80 acres is dead center of the map for the lake and no one has told me to get out yet.slinger We have been fighting it for years and we are in the loop of things and we knew the vote for the water plans would be an issue but so far nothing has come up on it. Its been quite for the last few years on the issue of the lake with the land owners.

They are going to have to buy your land...and everyone elses...and that is going to take a long time. It isn't like you are just going to get an eviction notice.

As I have said many times before, the rich people in Highland Park are going to water their lawn, it is just a question of how much you and I are going to have to pay for it. Landowners and enviromentalists make strange bedfellows when it comes to building reservoirs. The lawsuits delay and increase the price of the project, but they rarely succeed in preventing impoundment. I think the Lake Fastrill project is a prime example. The supreme court killed the project, but it is back on the water plan with an (alternative channel) designation.

Another concerning fact is the private funding of Lake Columbia. A private company is paying for 47% of the cost and getting 47% of the water rights...which they are going to sell to DFW.

The only thing worse than having w reservoir built in your back yard is having a reservior built in your back yard and then getting no water rights...and probably $20 ramp fees to boot.
