Hi guys I'm kenny from the lake conroe area. I have some property about 30 mins south west from the area. There are a few pounds on the property mainly full of bass, bluegill, and cats. I have been catching a new species latley, after some research I think it's a type of pickerel. Would love any input on this fish, and if they are invasive.

Do you happen to know what size they grow to?

Go to the Parks and Wildlife office and talk to a Game Warden. Take the pics and show them. They are very helpful with things like this.

Definitely a chain pickerel. I'm told they're here in Florida as well, but I haven't caught any yet (and that's 20+ years of fishing in Florida).

Thanks! I have been fishing these ponds for 25 years, and only caught the first one maybe 4 years ago. Yesterday I caught 2 of them. I have only caught 5 total.

From those few that I have caught, I have yet to catch one over about 3 pounds. That looks like a pretty nice one. I am sure that the get bigger though.

Pickerel- a bait fish eating machine, they can take over smaller waters.

Caught one there back ~20 years ago near Melbourne when I was a kid.

Believe it is a Grass Pickerel, one of two sub species of the American Pickerel.

Jackfish for sure. Got tons of them in Louisiana. They love Torpedos.
