I am wanting to build my own park'n'pole out of PVC. I'm sure I can handle it but I was just wondering what to use on the end for a spike. Any ideas or previous builds anyone has done are welcome.

All I did was cut my PVC about a 1/2 inch shorter than my dowel rods, then covered that in JB Weld. Then I took some tape and created a point on the end of it, and covered that in a few layers of JB Weld too.

I made my stake out pole from 1/2" grey PVC and a couple of wooden dowels that I glued into the ends with a clear construction adhesive. My pole is 10' long, and has about 12" of dowel in either end. I cut the bottom end at a 45 degree angle for a point, and drilled a hole on the other end for a tie off cord. It works great, and the flexibility of the PVC helps the pole stay in place in deeper water.

The pipe is sch 40 grey for electrical wiring, which has UV inhibitors. I used a 5/8" wooden dowel, and I had to sand it down slightly for a snug fit.

I ended up making one from 3/4" PVC and just put at T-fitting with caps for handle at the top. Then cut the end at a 45 for a tip. After that I bought a can of expanding foam and filled the inside of the PVC now it is sealed and it floats. I have used it once and it works great. It is about 8 ft long.


To attach the caps to the T I just cut a few pieces about 1.5" long off of the stick of PVC. Cost was very cheap like $2.50 the stick off PVC .50 cents for the caps and like $1 for the T. the can of foam was $4. So like $9 total cost.

grainger sells 1/2" fiberglass rod stock, works awesome, added homemade pvc T handle, total cost for 3 stake out poles was under 20$

I've been using these for over 9 years and haven't broke or wore one out yet.



Pool noodle of your color choice and a 6 foot fiberglass fence post. Already sharpened on one end and they hold up in strong wind.



I use them through the scupper holes in my Big Game plasctic and on a trolley with my wooden boats.

I went to Home Depot last night and bought an 8' 1/2" diameter fiberglass tree stake. The end is pointed, though I may make it more so. I plan to use either a paddle handle or make a PVC handle.

Where would be a good place to get one of those FiberGlass Fence Posts? Farm supply store?
Are they tough as PVC with a wooden dowel?

I've seen fiberglass rods on Grainger's website, but you have to wait several days before you can pickup.


I already have a stakeout pole (PVC w/ Wooden Dowel inside), but I want something thin enough to go through a scupper hole.

I have one of Don's stakeout poles. It works great! I stab it through the ring on my anchor trolley and set where I want it.
