Can you use a GPS on a small lake that is uncharted?

Sure you can. There just may not be a detailed map. You can mark spots and return to them.

Thanks, I thought they would only work with hot maps that are already charted. I also read where you can subscribe to a company that allows you to crate your own map
Thanks again.

FYI.. lowrance has software that can record the lake bottom on an SSD chip. You then transfer that recorded data to a PC app : called Insight Genesis and it's free.

The Global Positioning System has NOTHING to do with maps. It's satellite based. The function of the GPS is to tell you where you are. If you have a smart phone it probably has a GPS function.
