Just like the Good old days! I wish the knuckle heads with Tarrant County Water District would open the fishing piers back open to fishing. It used to be when they had 3 or less gates open, you could fish on the metal piers. You could throw along the swift water side and catch HUGE hybrids, limits of sand bass and on the calm size, we jigged up crappie so big, they looked like footballs. At the end of the pier you could even throw out to the 488 bridge pylons and let your jigs swwep bt the walls. With a good rod, big cats and gars were landed. Anybody remember that? Total waste of a fishery now, and I cuss Tarrant County Water EVERY time I pass behind the dam.

It's not the Lake Athens dam. "voluntary evacuation following a dam breach at Athens Fish and Game Club Lake near Lake Athens."

Hardly the TRWD guys fault. They got tired of cleaning up everyone's trash. I don't blame them.

I remember fishing off the pier right there. Because the wall was so high from the water, we had to make something to lift the large fish up the side of the wall. So we had a small laundry basket that we lowered with a rope and we had to lift the fish up enough to get the basket under it so we could bring it up. I don't know who is responsible for closing it, but it was a great place to bring kids fishing. I have kids of my own now and I wish I could bring them out there. I wonder why they closed it? Who was officially responsible for closing it, and why? If they closed it because people were trashing it, that's a shame. Punish everyone for the actions of a few people... Instead of finding a solution, just shut it down for everyone?
