I have an Abu Garcia Revo STX that is making a whining sound when I cast it. I took it apart and cleaned it but it still has a whine. It will cast fine for about 25 feet then it will whine and not go much farther. I'm guessing this is a brake issue? I have loosened everything but still having the same problem. Anyone have any suggestions? I will consider sending it to someone for repair/cleaning but I don't want to dump a lot of money in this reel. It is the most expensive reel I have and also has the most problems. I have some $50 h2o mettles that cast a mile and have worked for years without any problems. Thanks.

Sounds like bearings to me. take em back out and flush em out real good in some acetone or naptha(lighter fluid) might have to keep flushing them and test them and when you get them out and they are spinning nice and free for awhile add you a drop of oil and try again and see if that helps.

brakes/race are probably dirty. Pretty common issue on the dual braking reels made by any pure fishing company.

If it's a gen 1 it might be a bearing, but USUALLY the problem is not a bearing.

When in doubt clean it out! Worst case scenario is it doesn tchange anything. So I would just have someone clean it up real good and re lube everything. Youd be surprised at how much just a good cleaning can help.
