Need more information. Height, weight, where you'll be fishing, how you'll transport it, etc.

look into the Wilderness Systems Ride series. Right around your budget and very popular, stable fishing kayaks. Like Trio said demo, demo, demo

I know you said you want to stay around the $1000 mark, but like readtrip said "Demo, Demo, Demo" i decided to go with the Jackson Big Rig and i love it. But sometime i wish i saved up and bought either a hobie or a slayer with their peddle systems.

At $1,000.00 your options are pretty wide ranging.
At that price why not go another $300 to $500 and you can have a really nice kayak that you'll enjoy and not look back and say I wish I had bought that other one!

Just one more cast!

Slayer Propel might be a good fit for you. Especially if you're coming off a boat. It's just a manual trolling motor. But it's well over your budget unless you bite the bullet.

EDIT: There is a guy selling a Wilderness Systems Ride 115 for $750 on the kayak classifieds at the top of the page. Might be worth a look, plus it'll leave you some cash for rigging and whatnot.

Slayer, ride 135, raptor, cuda, big rig, diablo, lure, etc
Lots to choose from. All have their positives and negatives. Go to mariner sails and check em out.

Listen to this guy. Raptor is $1050, stable, fast, plenty of room for customization, and the owner of the company seems to pour his heart and soul into the products he puts out.
