I'm looking for a Fly fishing rod. I only want to spend $60 on one. I have never owned one before, so I want a cheap one before I go and buy the best rod and reel. Can anyone tell me where I can find one that cheap?

Cabela's has the TFO Pro Special on sale right now for $75. Higher than your budget, but a great deal at that price.

The Copper River is a new series for Cabela's. I don't anyone that has cast one of them yet. But, either one of these kits, Copper River or Three Forks, will get you onto the water and fishing.

The questions that you need to answer are what do you plan to fish for and where do you plan to fish? Those answers will help you decide which wt. rod you should start with.

Good luck!

For Redfish,I suggest getting a line weight of "8".

However, neither of the reels in these kits will last very long in saltwater. They will get you started, but it will be critical that you clean them very well after each use to avoid corrosion.

I can't see anything on your link, but the best advise I can give is to get a lesson before spending any money. You'll save money in the long run by better understanding what you need.

Most Bass Pro and Cabela's locations offer free introduction to fly fishing classes. Local fly fishing clubs often offer classes.

I'll be offering casting classes Friday and Saturday at the Texas Expo in New Braunsfels May 29 to 31.

Since you live in Rockport, go talk to Dean Thomas (who does a fair amount of fly fishing) at Slowride Guide Service in AP, or one of the guys at Swan Point Landing (the Orvis shop). They will point you in the right direction, and answer all of your questions. They make their livings off of anglers, and are always happy to introduce folks to new aspects of the sport. The reel on that Cabelas combo will probably not stand up to salt water for long.
