the request is for a "mexican tilapia" that don uses on his trips to mexico. not sure i've got the pattern quite right yet but i liked how it looked at this point so i cleared it and thought i'd put it up here for critique.

I really like it. Thanks so much for your help. I had lost my last custom Mex. T. to a huge bass down there and will be on Lake Guerrero June 11; pics. will follow.

Like that greenish base under the scale...looks great. thanks bois. that's a color called "foliage" from folkart. it's a great middle green. i'm thinking about going with a brown undercoat for the next batch if the mexican tilapia are indeed a little more brown. may be the answer i'm looking for to get that bait right.

Some are more of a black depending on the time of year. I call it SMOKE; but they always have that bit of Chrome outlining each scale and is really predominant on the sides, just below the darker back. In the Winter through March they are green then they hang around the surface looking for spawning areas and turn the darker smoke/black. Maybe they get sunburned. HA... I am always there Dec. through March.

Maybe green base....brown over mesh...shift the mesh...silver over mesh. Might create that silver scale tipping Don mentions. May need to mist a little white on before the silver...just to make the silver "pop" a little better.
