What do you like or dislike?

How well does the interface work with Lowrance units?

Had one for nearly a year and love it, no interference with my hds unit, anchor holds better than my terrova did. Don't really have any dislikes, I think you'll be happy.

Thanks 21xs,

I had a Terrova on my previous boat. Loved it.
How do the foot-pedals compare? Also heard Xi5 is more quite.

I don't have any hands on experience with the Xi5, but have heard a lot of good things about them. They have 2 GPS antennas - one in mount & one in the TM head - so accuracy on holding a spot is pretty good. I'm having one installed on a new boat I ordered. If you do a search on the Motorguide Xi5, it will show a lot of websites with info and also search youtube for videos.

I like the xi pedal better, and yes it is quiter than the terrova and a lot easier on your batteries.

I had a Terrova iPilot for a couple of years and just bought an xi5 about 2 months ago. As said above, the spot lock is way more accurate than the iPilot. The pedal takes some getting used to for two reasons. The head moves fast on the xi5 than on the iPilot. Also, the button is on the right side of the pedal versus on the left side of the iPilot. Again, it's no big deal, it just takes some time to get used to it.

I can't say it's quieter, but it is definitely not louder. It's funny someone above mentioned that it is easier on batteries. I have been thinking that my batteries have lasted longer than they did with the iPilot. I do not have the cable that links it to my Lowrance electronics. I do not have a touch unit on the bow so I didn't think I would benefit much from the link. Also, the xi5 has the capability to remember several (9??) anchor positions. It's as simple to program as holding down the button of the number on the remote. When you wanna go back to that spot, just push that number and off you go to that spot and you're anchored on.

It held fine on Rayburn this past Saturday (within 5-8 ft) while I was taking them over the bow on a 21' boat.

How is it to deploy? Hard to tell from their description but do you have to put it over the side then manually lower it down to depth with the knob? Then raise it up again manually before stowing? I don't uderstand how it works without the rope.

absolutely love mine...synched up with the Lowrance Gen 2 Touch electronics. The anchor works great. Strong winds on Fork Saturday. I threw out a marker and hit the anchor lock and it absolutely held me at the same distance from the marker the entire time. Regards, Bart

It takes some getting used to, I have two herniated discs in my lower back so it's not that bad. Push the pedal down and lift it up by the head, you can set the height with the knob, then just pull it back up. It would be wise on a rough day or towing to slide the knob down so it wouldn't deploy.

For the question of how well it holds on the anchor, falcon in 25mph water coming over the bow in a 21ft triton and never felt the boat move back or lunge forward, seemed very steady.

This is the worst feature about the iPilot and xi5. It's more difficult than the conventional rope deploy/stow method. Once you set the knob that sets the depth of your shaft, you don't move it to stow it. It can stay in place. You will DEFINITELY want to buy a Ram mount to keep the head from bouncing around while in rough water.

Absolutely great info. Thanks all.

What prop are all you Xi5 owners using? How does Xi5 perform in weeds or is another prop needed?
