I've recently started running into this problem:

When i use the nail hardener here lately to seal the finishing knot, after i let it dry, the part of the head where the hardener was changes color. I understand that on some colors, the color will change, but even on some of the plain non painted heads, i have it happening. I haven't had this issue before. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have had issues of the paint getting on the brush and then when I put it back into the bottle of Sally Henson it adds a tint to the clear.

It will change the color of pretty much anything flourescent.

Medic, that happens to me also. But I havent noticed it really doing anything negative.

Below are 2 regular, non-painted heads that I took a pic of. You can see how it is different color near the bottom of the head (where the Sallys was applied) than the rest of the head. I've been using the same process since I began tying months ago, and haven't had this problem before. Any ideas?

From the pics it looks like the Sally's just added a high gloss finish like it is supposed to.

It looks like the top of the head is really dull, and it normally isnt that color. Make sense? Or is it just me?

I went to buy more Sally's the other day. I grabbed a clear bottle that said "top coat strengthener". It dried to a very dull finish?? I was trying to seal eyes on the jigheads, so this wasn't going to work.

I went back and started looking and there is at least a dozen Sally's clear polish's at the drug store?? I bought another one that said "super shine topcoat" and it appears to be the one I was looking for.


On another note, If you PP your jighead in Chartruece, then dip it in clear PP, the nail polish does not change the chartruese color (that I can tell).

Uncoated lead will dull, over time......eventually, they will even start to corrode and get a white powder on them.

Even if I don't want a color'd head, I will at least clearcoat it, to keep it from turning dull (like in your picture)

I use Epoxy or Vinyl top coat that is made for the job. Barlow's has it and it works.

Thanks for all the replys. You know Redgun, I think I need to go back and check the bottle that I have. I know it says hard as nails, but need to look at it more cloesly. I think I am just about done using the Sallys and will move on to something better.

If you are just sealing your thread knot, I suggest getting an aplicator bottle and some head cement. It is MUCH easier to use.....

Crazy Anglers head cement is water based, and as far as far as I can tell, does not change the color on powder painted heads either.

Sorry, I did not understand what you were doing. I do not use glue to seal knot as a lot of people thinks it scares the fish away. But the last few years there is dozens of new glues its just a matter how long it takes to dry. The best ones you can find at the lumber yard type stores.

This! Get the applicator, it will make tying much easier and you can precisely administer the cement where you want it and just a itty bitty dab will do ya as it cen be put exactly on the finish knot. I prefer Daves Flexament but it is gittin harder to find. It can be made with marine goop thinned with toulene but is just easier to buy it. Cabelas carries it.
