I went to Bass Champs and saw a few guys with Lance Truck bed camper last week and it has me motivated to buy one of these.

Do any TFFers have a four wheel camper.?n I really want one for a half ton. The Raven weighs about 700-800 pounds if you get the shell model. That's well under payload.

I want to save cost for the the long term. Probably a 4 year break even based on on about 25 nights a year vs a hotel. Obviously if split it with your fishing parter it would seriously be cheap. Compared to hotels.

After you break even for the month the savings go straight to the bottom line. it would give me a excuse to go fishing more.

Should I do it? I am already spending close to 1500-2000 a year in hotel cost. So I could finance for 4 years and it would be pretty close to a wash. They options I want it would come out to about 12k-13k. insurance is pretty cheap.

Don't do it until you can pay cash for it!

I've got this one for sale right now. Weighs about 1,000 pounds. For a long bed, though. Very nice camper for the money.

i bought a pop up truck camper at the end of last year and have been using it all year. went with the pop up so i could put it in the garage. i have a 3/4 ton truck so weight was not an issue. i built a small stand with wheels to roll in and out of my garage. if i had to pay to store it i dont know if it would have been cost effictive. i absoultly love that thing. it has heat, air, stove, queen bed up top and the table turns in to a twin bed. i put a small tv with dvd player in there also. i have gone pre fishing more this year because i dont have to buy a hotel room. campgrounds are cheap and when you have a state park pass the second night is half off. and when you split between two people it is really cheap. i paid $2500 for mine. i got a cheap one just to see if i would like it. i now catch myself surfing craigslist for a lance.

That sure is a lot of $50 a night motel rooms to offset the cost of the thing..

Big cat that is a nice camper. Maybe I should just upgrade my truck to a F250. They would give me a few more options and could get a cheaper pop up truck bed camper. I agree with big cat the hotels at most lakes are 70.00 plus tax.

Karl, Not to get in a financial discussion, but I have the cash to pay for it , but I am going to run this purchase like a business. Why would I use my money when I can borrow the money at like 3-4 % and I can put my money in something else to make money. I can borrow 10 k from the bank at 4 % and only pay 837.00 in interest over 4 years. Probably cheaper than that, I can easily beat that return vs the expense. I am already spending the money anyways.

Matt, thanks for the post. I am looking for a pop up.

Back when I was younger and thought I was a good fisherman I thought about getting one of those, I think it is a pretty good idea if you fish a lot and like to camp.

I had one twenty five years ago. After about two years and I got tired of it. It set in the yard for the next three before I sold it.

I was there at Cedar Creek in one of the lance campers, have used a truck camper for the last 8 years and have really enjoyed the times. From Guntersville in Alabama to Santee Cooper in South Carolina, the time saved is really nice, practice till dark, have food there, great sleep, having rig right there, staying at ramp, fellowship of those that travel together. Cuts down on cost of lodging, fuel, food, most important is time. Hoping this helps with decision as I started sleeping on picnic tables, to truck beds, to under boat tarps,to air mattress in back of suburban, to truck camper and would not change a thing!

Through God all things are possible! Thank him every day for the beauty he provides.
