Ok. Been at this a long time. But, last night I caught what had to be the smallest bedding bass I've ever caught. It was a male that was about 10" long and way less than a pound. The female? Caught her too, she was closer to 2 pounds. Nothing big at all, but it got me wondering.... How big does a bass need to be (how old), to begin the mating processes and start to have the drive to build a bed to attract a female? This little bass I caught couldn't have been more than a year or so old.

On a side note... It, along with all the others I caught last night, were REALLY crushing rage craws and running strong with it. It wasn't a lazy "tap", it was as soon as the bait hit the grass, then slam! Or nothing.

Did you catch the buck bass guarding or could it have been a raider? Age can't be judged by size. If you didn't pull ototliths its really a guess and hard to gauge age. Could have been a stunted fish.

Google is your friend.

Found this in a few seconds

"Largemouth bass sexual maturity is influenced by size more than age, with most bass reaching sexual maturity with the ability to spawn at around ten inches. "

It's not the size of the bass...

Remember how old you were when you first started thinking about it?

I found a pair a couple of weeks ago that may have been less than a pound combined. Way too young.
