Karl, Not to get in a financial discussion, but I have the cash to pay for it , but I am going to run this purchase like a business. Why would I use my money when I can borrow the money at like 3-4 % and I can put my money in something else to make money. I can borrow 10 k from the bank at 4 % and only pay 837.00 in interest over 4 years. Probably cheaper than that, I can easily beat that return vs the expense. I am already spending the money anyways.
Good plan as long as you execute! I see too many justify purchases as to what they can afford per month! Been there! Pay cash and don't let the unexpected sink your ship! Just saying! No disrespect to your financial prowness intended!

Karl, 100% agree. See it everyday in the type of work I am in. People can't execute and if they can't execute they don't have a back up plan when they can't.
I am no financial master here by any means. I am just trying to save money in the long run instead of give it to someone else with no return.
I have thought about a truck tent but I'm not sleeping without an AC in the middle of the summer. I might start out with a ARE truck bed cap. I can build a bracket for an AC unit.

Stan, that's great to hear. You all had some impressive setups. I bet you have saved time and money that could never get back,. That's why I really want it.

I have a Lance 815 8'6" that I haul around on a 3/4 ton Ford F250 crew cab. I ordered it brand new in 2008. I have owned just about every class of camper out there. This is the 2nd or 3rd cabover I have owned and for fishing/hauling a boat I believe it is the best overall solution. Here is what I have learned over the years.
1. Electric remote controlled jacks are the best option you could ever add. 5 min on or take off. Cranking stinks.... 2. Put firestone airbags on your truck (1/2 or 3/4 ton). They level out the truck and make it safer when semi's pass you. Cabover + boat is a heavy load on any truck. 3. Upgrade your brakes on your truck AND make sure your trailer breaks work. I cannot stress this enough as stopping quickly will be a challenge. 4. If you buy used, look at all outside caulk and seams. If they are cracked, then you need to inspect very closely for water damage. This is a VERY common issue for cabovers and happens quickly. I had to replace one entire underside on my lance last year. This is a yearly maintenance item. 5. You need frame mounted tie downs. Torklift makes the best IMO and the fast guns are a great but cost ~$1000 new. 6. Pop-ups are lighter, cost less, but sleep like a tent. You hear everything, they are cooler in winter, and warmer in summer.
Hope this helps and good luck in you search.
