I searched for post on running the lake and all comments are about up north. I can follow the poles around on the north side easy enough. How is running it on the south end when the poles stop going to Alley and Johnson Creek? Ran down there once and there was a lot of rebar and scattered trees. Now the rebar would be covered.
Thanks

Don't run above the bridge in Alley. There is a sandbar out in front of the creek mouth so I would slow down well before the buoys. Don't run under the bridge in Johnson unless you know where to run. If your fishing hurricane shut down by the time you get 300 yards from the bridge. Lots of other shallow points so stay wide of those. Main thing is that most creeks and coves have stumps as you go farther back so just use common sense. Look at a contour map and you should be able to see the points I'm talking about. PM me if you need any other information.

From the end of the markers, keep going straight, stay on that half of the lake. Around a main point coming up to Alley, there should be some stobs you can see sticking up. They may be under the water by now, but slow down here. There are some groups of them, and as long as you dodge them, they are ok. EDIT: from Alley to Johnsons, imagine a line drawn from Watts island straight up the lake, stay off that side. It's not clear. The other side is good to go. As long as you see the dam immidiatly in front of you at this point and NOT Watts Island, you should be OK.
To go into Alley from this direction, pass the opening up. circle back and center between the shore that it now to the right (heading back UP the lake), and an imaginary line coming straight back from the far point towards you. That large sand bar runs straight with the lake from that point towards the dam. At this level (4-5 ft high), it should be safe to run. There is a large rock pile off the dam side of the lake (eastern point). It is safe to run with the exception of a large floater to the left of the bridge just out off the bank a bit. I've never NOT seen this, but it may not be visible. Don't run at all past the bridge.
Johnson's you can run up to the bridge. There are 3 stumps off the point, to close to be comfortably running. Swing a little wide. You can run Johnsons all the way up until you get to the cove to the right. It's probably safe up to the cove to the left at this water level.
Hurricane you can run into up until the boat ramp. There is a large tree down at an angle just before and off the point to the left as you're coming into it. It's probably more in the middle than to the side at this level though. Stay closer to the right bank, but don't hug the bank to close. It's safe up until the boat ramp if you follow this. You can actually run up to the bridge if you have the right arc, but I don't advise this if you're asking around.
Brushy has a large sandbar you need to go around. As you go into Brushy, locate the buoys and swing to the right of the right set of buoys. It's safe up until the dam with the exception of that sandbar.
Buckhorn is safe on both sides. However there is a no wake zone on the left fork of Buckhorn. Be sure to adhere to that cause the old man in one of the boats on the end likes to stand out there and yell at people going to fast. He may even shake his fist and swear at you.
Unless otherwise noted, the lake below Johnsons is safe to run all around. I didn't mention anything about the coves past Tejas, but they should be good to go at this level, the one to the left may get shallow. Both have a lot of timber laid down in them, but they are far below the surface at this point.
There should be a thread with a bunch of GPS points listed for all kinds of other hazards. Those are very helpful for the upper end of the lake.

+1 for Lance Vick lanes. I've used them for LOP and they're good.

Downloaded it today. Never been on LOP, seems like a scary lake to run.

It's not that bad. What kind of graph you got. Humminbird you will need to edit it so it shows up so you can see it. Let me know if you need help with it.

I think i got it loaded ok. Is the long straight boat lane track east of the main creek channel clear of stumps? Is that where the boat lane poles are? Is the area of the lake from Alley to the dam clear to run? I have a Hummingbird

The long straight Boatlane from the dam will run to the beginning of the LOP boat lane poles. Vick's Boatlanes has tree-lines marked so stay a safer distance. Treeline will start at Watt's Island running on southwest side. You will pick up another treeline after Alley on the northeast side, so stay close to track there and arrive at the poles.
At the poles, stay on the side shown by the green marker on each pole. Both directions will be running on the same side of the poles. This lane is 45-60 ft wide. Vick's Boatlanes show more dangerous narrow areas by the "red crosses", and more shallow areas by the "yellow crosses". At current water level, the shallow areas are now deep enough to run.
North of Hwy 155 Bridge, you have to know the lake to run the poles.
Most of the lake from Watt's to the dam & Tejas is open. Runs are shown into several of LOP's coves.
