I am looking for a cart that works well with Slayer Propel 13. There are a lot of scupper kayak carts out there on the market, however I have read posts that says this type of cart puts a lot of stress in the area around scupper holes for any kayak. What do you guys think?

Although Hobie makes carts that mount through their scuppers, I'd be leery of doing that with any other brands. I've never owned a Hobie, so I don't know how much beefier their scuppers are. I also shun running a stakeout stick through the scupper, although more than a few people apparently do that. I can't say for sure that the kayak can't take it, but why risk it? Besides, it's easier to put my kayaks on my C-Tug or my homemade cart than it would be to try to stab two scuppers.

Most all of the weight of the kayak is going to rest on that small area of the scupper holes. It's not reinforced to take a lot of abuse and it's not in the design of the kayak to put a lot of pressure on them.
Use a scupper cart at your own risk, but I wouldn't over load the kayak with gear. Just the weight of the kayak is probably too much over rough terrain, but again use at your own risk.

Just one more cast!

I have the Harmony Scupper Cart that I use with my Tarpon 120 and I wouldn't ever go back to the "strap on" type carts. I've had mine probably close to three years and used it probably close to 100 times with no "scupper integrity" issues.

Hobie molds reinforcers into the scuppers on their kayaks to prevent damage from the carts.

I don't know if any others do so use caution.

I've used a scupper cart for a few years on my Native Redfish. I have seen some warping of the scupper holes, and it is a pain to pick it up so high to get it on. I don't hate it, but I will try something else next time.

About the only cart that fits any of the Propels are the Native Watercraft Smart Carts. A few years back when the Ultimates first came out Mariner looked all over to find a cart that would work with the unique tunnel hull shape and found nothing workable. Finally Native came out with the Smart Cart. Sadly they are a bit pricier than standard carts but they are about your only true and workable option. Couple the hull shape and the larger than standard scupper holes and you really have no option.

We have had several people take their Slayers home and try to find something that would work. They all have come back and purchased the Smart Carts.

So the smart cart will fit the Slayer hull? Im looking at the webiste and it says it will ONLY fit the Ultimate's. Ive been looking for a decent cart solution for mine. $170 is also a big YIKES in my book especially for what the cart is.

Depends on if your yak is heavy and how rough the terrain is. I dont use them because they have damaged many a yak.

The Smart Carts are designed in two versions of Native Watercraft products . . . one for the Ultimate series and one for the Propels. We have several options for the paddle only Slayers that should work.

I only have a little 10 ft pescador but I use a little homemade scupper cart. I got the design off the internet it seems like it would put less stress on the scupper area with the cross bars and pool noodles added for padding. Again my yak is light too and I still take it easy on rough terrain when I use it. The PVC comes out of the top about 6" or so.

It only cost me about $20 to make it, if I had to do it again I would make it a little shorter but otherwise it has worked well.
