Someone told me that the spillway is open and its okay to fish behind the dam at chambers. Is this true? Does anyone know for sure?

Gates on the RC Spillway haven't been open in 5 or 6 years and when they are only TRWD personnel or their friends have access. Your info is probably pertaining to the "Waterfall" which is water pumped into RC from the Wetlands Project from across Hwy 287. Many folks fish it in the Spring and cooler months as it attracts baitfish and fish. Not much use in fishing it in the warmer months as the fish are scattered all over the Main Lake now that they have spawned. Good fishing on RC the past few weeks! Good Luck!

The the fishing on the wall behind the dam gates will more than likely never be open to the public again. It was fun back in the day when they were. As mentioned above, the waterfall or spillway is on the lake side of the dam. Good fishing right now early and late.

You can still get in on some of that behind the spillway fishing by launching in the river, going downstream, then up where Richland Creek comes into the river. You can get up to the back of the forbidden zone, where there is a concrete weir across the discharge. It's only hot when the gates are open of course... The last time TRWD had the gates open, April 2012, it was absolutely unbelievable. Hybrids almost every cast.
