I was wondering if anyone knows of a good place for bluegills in McKinney area where I can actually keep them instead of catch and release. Want to take 3yr old boy to fish some.

I don't fish in your area however you may want to try community ponds. Also use Google and search for water bodies in your area. Bluegill are just about everywhere. The Gills are active right now. They love hanging around close to docks, overhanging tree limbs, sunken brush, and grass beds. Worms are the best bait. Good luck and let us know how you do. thumb

Side Note: Hopefully someone in your area will respond. coolio

You might be able to keep them at Bethany Lakes in Allen. I have read on here that it is catch and release only but the signs there say fishing is regulated by state law and city ordinance and that catch and release is always encouraged. That leads me to believe if the fish is legal to keep according to TPWD regulations then you can keep it. Also, there are no signs anywhere that say catch and release only. That being said, catching fish large enough to keep may be a bit of a chore because most of the fish I see out there are pretty small.
