Last week, after Ouachiata, we headed to our stay at Big Cedar on Table Rock. The weather was incredible, the water was clear down to 15 feet and the bass were in pre-spawn/spawn. We couldn't get the fish to bite on anything. We were so frustrated, we hired a guide for 1/2 a day. He turned us on the Ned Rig. After getting some pointers, we used it the rest of our stay. I am not going to say we tore them up but we did catch fish. My Wife actually had a first with catching the same fish twice on it. I am going to use this set-up down here and see how the fish react.

Be safe,

Its a good rig for small fish. I personally prefer to use 3 inch senkos weightless/ dropshot rig. Either way its a killer finesse bait. The TRD/shroomz system is extremely snaggy, so its application is much more limited. I fish gopher tackle mushroom heads, got an entire box of them... love the thin wire gamakatsu hooks they use. I stopped using senkos on the ned rig and now use the 3'' yamamoto curly tail grub in watermelon/watermelon red flake + gopher tackle mushroom jighead painted to match for that super finesse/numbers bait. Try it!

The Ned rig is named after Ned Kehde. Ned has been using this for decades. He resides in Lawrence, Ks. and is a long time contributor to Bassmaster, Field and Stream, In-Fisherman and many other publications. I've fished with him numerous times and have learned something every time out. The man can flat out catch fish. Super nice guy and loves to be outdoors. He takes the bail off of his spinning reels because it eliminates line twist. Would love to fish with him again, as we are both getting up there in years. Super individual.

That sounds a lot like my technique....

I recently watched a video on YouTube where Ned discusses the rig and what its purpose is. Any lure designed to boat 100 fish a day regardless of size or species is OK by me since I'm a recreational bass fisherman. As far as I'm concerned, catching quality fish is always good, but catching quantity is just as good if not better.
Based on that video Ned seems like a great guy and I'm sure it's an honor to share a boat with him.

He might have learned that from Charlie Brewer, Sr. In one of Ned's videos, he mentions Mr. Brewer. There are a lot of philosophical and technique similarities between slider head fishing (Mr. Brewer's design) and the Ned rig. The goal with both designs is to catch numbers, particular in pressured waters. The slider head options are definitely better around vegetation, with the original Ned rig more suited for open water.

The last thing I need on the lakes I fish is a lure that attracts multi species.

Any time I rig up with that much of the hook crook left in the body of the bait, the fish throws the bait most of the time and I don't get the fish landed... Anyone else have that problem?
